"Despite the profound health consequences and staggering cost of caring for socially isolated and lonely older adults, the health care system is a relatively untapped yet vital partner in tackling these problems, according to the National Academies report. Given its contact with older adults, the health care system is uniquely well-positioned to help identify, prevent, and mitigate these dangerous public health issues."
