Relative Mathematics

By Conway
Mon Jul 31 2017 8:54 pm

For any number in any set, there exists a z1(value) and a z2(space) constituting that number.
Space(z2) is defined as a given quantity of dimension.
Value(z1) is defined as a given quantity of existence other than a dimension.
So that a z1 and z2 for any number other than zero equal that number.
So that z1 for zero equals zero. So that z2 for zero equals one.
It is in a binary expression of multiplication that one number given is z1 and the other number given is z2. In any order.
It is in a binary expression of division , that z1 is the first given number and z2 is the second given number.
So that in a binary expression of multiplication or division by zero...

A(as z1) x 0(as z2) = A
0(as z1) x A(as z2) = 0
A(as z2) x 0(as z1) = 0
0(as z2) x A(as z1) = A

0(as z1) / A(as z2) = 0
A(as z1) / 0(as z2) = A

flying

By ja
Tue Mar 14 2017 2:47 pm

There are drones powerful enough to fly humans but batteries are weak. If only there was a source of electricity in the sky. Something like poles with wires carrying electric. Seems like there are something like that alongside roads.
Could a drone use that power, like a trolley use to?
. Don't try this with humans. Try with unmanned drones. Don't cross wires. Be ready to deal with hundreds and thousands of volts. Don't let electric companies catch you.
See my other flying ideas.

Hang gliders work good but need power. Propellers are not efficient. Engines have poor power to weight ratio.
A drone motorcycle on the ground could pull a manned glider.
The value is a comfortable ride. Maybe no road needed. Could separate maybe find each other again.

New type of filesystem

By Mark
Fri Jan 20 2017 4:19 am

I propose we develop a new way to access your files.
Computers have been using the same hierarchical system of accessing files for centuries.
As you know, it consists of a root directory, or before computers, a file cabinet. you then look through the drawers to find the folder that contains other folders with the file that you are looking for; and when you are looking for numerous files, in various drawers in various folders, it becomes very time consuming.

I have a 1 Terra byte hard drive that i recently purchased, and i realised, once i fill it up, trawling through the mass of files and folders is going to be even more strenuous.

So i propose, that we find a way to produce a non-hierarchical system, or improve the one we have.

I aplologize for not having an idea just yet, but i thought i would get this out in the air, and see what people think would be a good way to replace our dated storage system.

US can be a true democracy and do away with electoral college

By Bon
Sun Jul 17 2016 8:36 pm

In this day and age of technology we should be able to do away with this goofy electoral college system and have a true democracy. This means EACH citizen's vote is given equal weight! What a concept. I mean wasn't that the intent of our forefathers to begin with? We would no longer have those anomalies where a candidate wins the popular vote but loses the election. How does that even make sense?
I'm sure there would be bitter opposition from politicians on doing away with the electoral college.
But I think it's time the U.S. becomes the democracy it was intended to be. And I think this would cause more people to get out and vote because now your vote actually counts.

How zoos can be more popular

By Bon
Sun Jul 17 2016 8:26 pm

Zoos were never very exciting to me as a child. I assume in this day and age of instant gratification, crazy roller coaster rides, insane technological advancements in entertainment, Zoos are probably the last place someone wants to go for a thrill.

My idea is to make zoos for adults and make them more interactive with an element of risk.
You basically have all animals out together in a savannah like setting, for example, where they would be in their natural habitat, so you'd have elephants, lions, gazelles, giraffes, hippos etc. Through this savannah like setting you'd have a narrow pathway that winds through. The pathway would have a strong plexiglass barrier on both sides. The pathway is narrow enough so that wildlife can't get onto the path. Every few hundred feet there would be breaks in the plexiglass to give the observer an element of danger. The observer would need to make sure the coast is clear before running from the protected path to the next section of protected path. This of course would probably not fly as we know people are not that bright and would probably walk out to try to pet a lion and get mauled. And animals may not see the plexiglass and run into them and get injured. At any rate zoo goers could walk along the path during the day and at night they would be given night vision goggles. They would see animals acting as they normally would, and hunting and killing prey as they normally would.
I think that could be quite an adventure that people would be willing to pay for and in turn funding the preservation of our wildlife.

Gun Control

By Noah
Wed Jul 6 2016 1:33 pm

I think we should have a better regulatory system for gun control. Japan has implemented a very strict gun policy in which owners have to take a test every few months to ensure they know how to properly use a firearm. I think something link this could be adopted into U.S. society with little to no backlash. There will always be extremists who complain about taking their guns away, but this will allow them to keep their firearms just by performing a simple test that shows your knowledge of the weapon.

Alternative energy: temperature difference

By Ehsan
Sat Jun 4 2016 2:37 pm

I know that we have physical effects which in them, temperature difference can causes electrical pulses in some materials and vice-versa. (I'm sorry, I forget the name of effects). So it's a raw idea. but I want to ask, if it's possible that for example we bury a rod of such materials in a hot area, such that one of heads on hotter temp, and another side some meters lower in cooler temp, and we produce electricity by this method. Of course it will have low cost, low maintaining cost, and simple execution.

Energy for internal implants

By Ehsan

So I taught that a major problem in Internal implants, like Artificial Hearts, is maintaining a power source. Why we don't use our body energy production from mechanical movements caused by breathing process? we can use electroactive polymers to do that. and we can use an inverse working material( I don't know it even exists) to make a artificial heart.

5 Steps To Turn Your Business Around

By Fraser
Tue May 3 2016 11:35 pm

I often relate this process to riding a roller coaster for the first time. You are waiting in line, anxious, nervous and curious all at the same time. It is finally your turn, and you hop in the seat, buckle up and at this point you are fully committed. You have no option but to go for it.
There is that moment when you are still climbing of both trust and release. At the top of the hill, there is a 2 second pause of complete silence where you almost lose your breath completely. At this point, you must trust you will be brought back home safely. You scream and laugh through the rest of the ride and the coaster starts to slow down and eventually stop. You unbuckle yourself, and walk off the ride with a sense of satisfaction and exhilaration.
That wasn't as scary as you thought it would be.
Reaching a turning point in your business is a process. It is never just one thing, but a series of cyclical events when you realize everything shifts and changes. I discovered the following 5 steps that made a difference as I pushed forward in my business.
1. Stop Blaming Something or Someone Else
I became incredibly self-aware of my surroundings and decided not to place blame on other people, lack of experience, the system or the platform I was using. If this sounds familiar, commit to take charge of your life and destiny. Nobody else can control your actions or results except you.
2. Look At Previous Breakthroughs
As I looked back at previous turning points in my business, I realized they were always the result of attending live events. After every single one, there was a big spurt of energy and production in my business. Commit to attending as many live events as your budget will allow.
3. Set A Deadline
I set a specific deadline for myself. If I was not making money in my business by December 22nd, then it's not the business platform or system, but me. I will look in the mirror and decide not to move forward because you must make money to have a business. I needed a cold, hard deadline to prove this was not going to be a hobby, but a business.
4. Eliminate Backup Excuses
It is easy to have a back up plan in the back of your mind. Just in case your business doesn't make it. I had to become fully committed to making my business work and eliminate the 'what if' plan from my thinking.
5. Sign Up For Mentorship
I realized that not only did I need a mentor, but that I needed to TRUST their process.
Become incredibly receptive to the concept that you are in good hands. Put blinders on and focus on the actions they are guiding you to do. it is about the action and not the expectation.
There are times you may find yourself reverting back to blame and excuses, but keep going back to step 1 and commit all over again. Remember it is action without expectation.
The only person that will build your business and change where you are headed is you! Get rid of plan B and move forward to experience your breakthrough.

What Nobody Mentions

By Stephen
Sun Nov 15 2015 1:21 pm

Is the rampant favors-for-dollars corruption in government caused by an innocent voter habit that nobody ever mentions? Specifically, did anyone ever explain exactly what it is that gives campaign contribution money so much influence over our policy decisions in Congress, and over which candidates get elected? The Center for Responsive Politics points to an unconscious voter habit of electing the biggest spenders in the campaigns. But nobody mentions the corrupting effects of the habit: every campaign donor trying to give the most, in order to gain the most influence over every candidate trying to spend the most, in order to get the most votes.

Has anything been written on the subject of “voters electing biggest spenders?” A Google search turns up my own Website, the Center for Responsive Politics Website, and many others. But no books, articles or columns about the bad consequences of this habit. Has any effort been made to inform the public?

In the October posting at www.thirdmillenniumagenda.us I suggest how voters could shake the habit. (If this link fails, see preceding paragraph.) I hope someone will tell me any reason why it wouldn’t work, anything I overlooked.

bike with hand pedals propelling the front tire

By emerson
Thu Aug 13 2015 7:16 am

there are bikes that have hand pedals like varibike and four strike bike but all of them propell the rear tire, what i propose is a bike where steering is achieved by articulating the bike frame like a semi trailer truck, and making the front tire rigid and unable to twist from left to right.

steering the bike will be done by shifting the whole front segment of the bike, with steering handlebard rendered immovable, a hand pedal would take its place with the chain connected to the front tire. it could also have a fixed handle bat in case the rider decides not to use the hand pedals.

my idea is geared more for fitness and genaral health not speed or rough terrain, because strength issues about the articulated bike frame is not yet tested, so it will probably be more suited as a road bike

What if contatless could help the homeless

By John
Mon Jul 6 2015 12:16 pm

What if people could easily transfer money to a contactless device held by a homeless individual?

A device that could restrict allowable spending.

A device that was only available to those actually in need.

A device that could be issued and monitored by a trusted charity or organisation.

In London you see thousands of people not giving cash to the homeless and there are always the same reasons for this:
- You don't have any cash on you.
- You can't trust how the money will be spent

But what if you could trust how the money would be spent. What if you didn't need to be carrying cash. With technology where it is now, are we not already in the position to provide a platform to help the world to help others?

new dating site idea "Women-chat-first."

By jason
Thu May 14 2015 2:13 pm

i have recently been looking at a lot of dating websites and a lot are free to join but then you have to pay to chat or whatever, i have also seen sites where the man has to chat first and its free for women to chat but not men witch i think is wrong personally so my idea is as follows,
A dating website funded solely by advertising on the site witch would allow all to chat for free but at the same time been a little bit shy myself i understand that its hard for men to make the first move aswell as myself i never know what to say so how about a dating site where the woman has to chat first and a man can only contact a woman at first by reply then once you start chatting open up a private message to chat freely between themselves at any time.
i think this would be a excellent idea especially for the shy blokes who never want to send the first message as they are to shy or even just afraid of rejection.
This way the woman chooses who she would like to speak to first.
Thats all i have on my idea at the moment any responses would be helpful.

debate app

By jeremy
Sat May 2 2015 4:30 pm

Just something I've been working on

Step 1. Idea
Problem: We're living in a world full of intolerance, judgement, and discrimination. Everyone has an opinion or view about something. These views are based on our values and ideals we've learned from parents, friends, religion, race, financial status, personal situations, teachers, idols, role models, and the things that we consider most important to us. All of that makes perfectly good sense. But what isn't right is that just because we have these beliefs we always think we're right and someone else is wrong. We don't take the time to open our minds and think about what factors are affecting the persons opinion on the opposite side of the argument. We shield ourselves from the full picture. Just because I have an opinion doesn't mean it holds any more weight than someone else's that is different. We need to take in the views from everyone, from every angle. Being different isn't bad. Its a different perspective. We should take into account all of these differences and use them to make informed decisions that will benefit mankind in an effort to bring happiness to everyone. We've put people on the moon, grown limbs from stem cells, given vision to blind. We have devices at our fingertips that can do almost any task we ever need. We've found ways to share a picture of our gym session with the world in the click of a button but we haven't created a convienent, fair, simple way to give everyone a voice on what means them post to them.

Step 2. Solution
My idea is to make an app made to give an voice to anyone who feels passionately enough about something that they want to be heard. I want to create a debate app where people give their arguments on chosen social issues with the intent of finding solutions that best benefit everyone. There will be a way to screen arguments for slander, name calling, and fake facts. It'll be ran close to the way a college debate is structured. That's the idea in a nutshell without going into details. If it works the way that I really hope it will then that means there's a possibility of bring about change by providing anyone with an insight to other people's beliefs, their struggles, what drives them, their values, and how they're affected by factors we might recognize or identify with. If we can get to a point where people respect each other for our differences and use those differences to make better informed decisions we could get back on a successful path for mankind.

now I just need some feedback

Garbage system upheaval - Sell your "foodjuice"

By Bes
Thu Apr 2 2015 1:16 pm

I have 5 trash cans in my kitchen each a different size, serving different functions. It has helped me reuse recycle and minimize the amount of garbage my family expels.

My idea is a trashcan that takes all food scraps and grinds them down to a juice. This juice can be used in our own gardens, can be collected by a company and sold for profit, or whatever its purposes. I urge businesses to do the same with all the food they throw away (required; instead of using it to feed the poor)

Lets go world. Invent, build and share for free...make it happen. Open a door of blessings from God for not wasting his bounty.

Part 2 Sincroaeris teleportation and warp

By Tharen
Thu Feb 19 2015 12:29 pm

Sincroaeris 2: reconstruction of the human brain
Quite difficult is the reformation of ruined flesh, primarily the brain, and as such the restoration of the brain following their rebirth is born of several common yet no less necessary aspects: as models of the subject’s minds are constructed and simulated, several progenitor cells or stem cells are sampled, and used to construct a 3d form of the simulated mind, which is then activated. Activation of this tissue given its perfectly mirroring structure to that of its parent, will result in a similar if not identical thought pattern, which is observed as the organ lies in its nutrient bath, to ensure that its responses to given stimuli are identical to that of its former version. Activation of this tissue is accomplished through presentation of the subject’s own polarized cerebral fluid, or intercepting a single impulse from the brain to the spine.

Nonprofit for Consumer Contracts Reviews

By Filip
Sat Feb 14 2015 6:09 am

Problem: Consumers are signing on to increasing numbers of complicated binding contracts that they don't understand. Contracts and EULAs for cell phone plans, credit cards, devices, web sites, etc, have gotten more and more complicated and more restrictive. As the fine print gets finer, and the text gets longer, consumers are no longer able to really understand what they are agreeing to. They lose money being locked into contracts, lose their rights, and may make a choice the does not benefit them. They can't afford to hire an attorney to review each contract, yet the company proposing the contract can afford to hire many, and spread that cost, especially if the contracts are written extract extra revenue from unaware consumers. The incentive to make complex contracts is high. This has been the trend, and its getting worse, reducing consumer power and creating a negative consumer experience.

Solution: A non-profit impartial web site that hires attorneys to review a product or service's contracts and summarizes them from the consumer's point of view. They could use a system of criteria rankings based on length of contract commitment, expected cost over lifetime, cost of cancelling plan, cost of making changes to plan, rights lost by consumer, frequency of contract changes, etc. In each category (cell plans, credit cards, etc) Companies could be ranked by these criteria. Consumers could go to the site to check the rankings before picking a plan. This would help them decide whether the restrictive contract is worth agreeing to. The site will be a third party, so they will be able to trust the advice. Maybe companies will be influenced by this site and start competing more on simplifying their contracts, since it increases the incentive to simplify the contracts. This will equalize the playing field and empower consumers.

Sporting events donated a portion of their sales to charity.

By Cass
Sat Jan 31 2015 12:24 pm

I've heard so many times about how much football players make. Who REALLY needs 20 millions dollars a year as a salary?
I'm not saying that being an professional athlete isn't hard work...but imagine if sporting events, like bowl games and super bowls and places that make a ridiculous amount of money for their investors, were required to donate just 5% of their proceeds to a certain charity- and that would be disclosed to ticket buyers.
Or even further, where professional athlete salaries were capped and everything above that line was given to community members like teachers, social workers and police officers who work just as hard but make a very small fraction of the football salary.

I agree and disagree with this. It is not the athletes who should donate, it is the owners of the teams. The athlete has to pay for agents, managers, PR, injuries, etc so in reality they're not making anywhere near what their contract states. Unless you are Peyton Manning or someone of that stature you're most likely bringing home what a top doctor brings home. The franchises, owners, investors, etc make so much off of events and turn the audiences eyes to point shame and blame on their athletes, whom only play for a few years at most. It should be those blood sucking leeches at the top that give back to the community.

The Sincroaeris Theory of Warp travel and Teleportation

The Sincrosis Theory: Warp travel and Teleportation
This theory of warp travel, or rather teleportation hinges upon technology that mankind is currently capable of, oriented upon man’s present abilities rather than those of future speculated. 3D printing and signal amplifying satellites, these are the aspects of Sincrosis, these are the aspects of teleportation, a concept that may at present seem unnatural, impossible, unlikely. Yet as this document is further perused, evermore knowledge shall suffuse your mind, and with evermore clarity shall you behold its contents.
Chapter I: Basic Function
As the Sincrosis drive is activated, diamond edged blades shred and catalogue the crew as the ship is disassembled and stored within the transmitter segment, whereupon the data that represents both crew and vessel is transmitted to the receiving segment which reconstructs both. Yet of superior difficulty, is the reconstruction of the human brain, for without proper reconstruction of this vessel, the subject would cease to remain themselves, and as such the crew’s minds are fully modeled and tested several months prior, each wrinkle and the pattern by which it was forged, reactivated by introducing their own cerebral fluid to induce polarization of the brain cells due to the ionized nature of brain fluid. As the methods by which their mind operates are recorded and formed anew, the subject’s mind is formed into an A.I which responds to several simple questions with the unique nature of the human it represents, the neural patterns effectively translated into a digital form by storing each thought as it is translated into english, and utilizing the pattern by which the subject’s mind operates, as an algorithm to determine response. Should this effort prove successful, a flesh version is hewn (patterns reconstructed by a cycling influx of polarized cerebral fluid or electrical impulses, or even printing the mind with heretofore polarized cells that are cloned via stem cells from the subject’s own body, and mimic the wrinkles and generally knotted shape of their oblong neural organ. Thus, once the crew and their vessel are reforged, each is far from simply a precise clone of their previous edition, rather the synapses that haunted their mind even directly previous to the diamond blade’s dissection of the brain, is stimulated and translated, thoughts themselves reborn as the creature is printed, since the human subject’s own synapses are fully copied, and they are born of tissue cultured from this subject’s mind which is stimulated to perfectly mimic that of its host. One might present the concept of this original subject’s death, yet far is this from true since as the other wakes, its own synapses follow the path of its former, and this new edition received its thought processes from the other.
Thus, a second possibility exists: simply induce the subject into a dreamlike state, and translate their own thoughts into this new clone while stimulating their own mind to mimic the actions of their freshly hewn edition.

3 Measures while discussing 2 bedroom granny flat designs

By stachel
Fri Jan 16 2015 2:12 am

When it comes to granny flat the designs have to be extremely well planned. Without right thought and planning it is impossible to build a good home for old people. It is not just the luxuries but the comfort of the elders and their safety that has to be taken care of.

This is why you have to contact professional granny flat designers. It is important that you and the professional talk all the important issues pertaining to the granny flats. Without you having the blueprint of the homes, you will not be able to get a good idea about the homes. Also without the right design in your hand, you will not be able to confirm and begin the project. With limited space to build the granny flats, think of the 2 bedroom granny flat designs.

3 important measures that will help you in your granny flat project are discussed below.:

Spacing of Rooms:
Granny flat with 2 bedrooms with limited space will definitely need planning. Professionals will help you out with various granny flat solutions. There might be Autocad that will help you learn about the design of the flat. With the blue print in your hands you will not have to worry thinking how would the house look? Bring in the elderly people for discussion. Their inputs will certainly help the professionals understand their requirements and expectations from the structure. For example the old people would want a front porch in their home. Or they would prefer bigger bedroom and smaller sitting room. The granny flat designers will come up with interesting concepts.

Electrical Fittings:
The first necessity in any flat is the light. When it comes to elderly, you will want well-lit homes. The house should have good light not only during the day but also during the dark. Professionals have to be informed about such details. In a 2 bedroom granny flat designs there will be a difference in the lighting pattern in different rooms. There is a need for proper lighting in different corners of the home. It is not just the lights but accessing the lights should be easy too. The old people should not find it hard to locate the switches. Along with the lights there will be other items that run on electricity. Make sure the cabling is pre-planned so that everything in the house is safe.
Security:

Every angle of safety has to be considered when the 2 bedroom granny flat designs are discussed. It is not just about the safety door and latches or burglar alarms. A slippery floor might make the old person slip and fall. Also too much of furniture or stairs would not be appreciated by the elders. This is why you will want the professional designers to discuss all the parameters of safety. Think of all the things that would make the life of the elderly happy and comfortable. Unless such things are discussed, one will never succeed in making a home that is comfortable for the elderly.

Consider these 3 basic yet crucial elements while discussing the 2 bedroom granny flat plans. They will guide you to build the best one. Also such granny flats will be liked by the elderly and love to live in it.

How to fight war propaganda? How about a virtual cafe?

By Nick
Thu Nov 20 2014 5:26 pm

Use social media as a medium to virtually connect two people from a different parts of the world. The goal of the project to allow people across the world to realize we are all much more similar than we may think.

For example, all people to create "Virtual Towns" that represent the part of the world that you self identify with. When joining the virtual town, you agree to have your profile, except for your name, available to others to determine if your profile is someone they would like to invite to a virtual cafe to have a friendly discussion. The virtual cafe would include translation software to facilitate the back and forth communication.

For example, someone living in Seattle could choose to join the virtual town of "Seattle". Then, someone living in Moscow could join the virtual town of "Moscow". The person in Moscow could ask the virtual cafe to send a meeting invitation to someone from the "Seattle" virtual town that is between the age of 35-40, married, and a father. The only item of information that wouldn't be disclosed to the Russian user would be the name of the Seattle user (for security purposes). If the invitation was accepted by the Seattle member then the accepting party would host the Russian member in a virtual cafe located in the virtual town of Seattle. They could discuss any topics of their choosing to get to know more about their different life experiences. To keep the host party accountable, the conversation would be open to other members of the Seattle virtual community, although the identities would not be disclosed, just basic profile information besides the name. This way, if people accept an invitation to host a meeting with the intent to say a bunch of nasty or mean stuff then the other members of the town could kick the person out of the group.

Anyway, too many other details to get into but the overall goal is to give people the opportunity to seek a virtual discussion with someone form a certain part of the world that meets a general profile. Then they can meet with each other online and realize they are more alike then they realized. I believe this type of system could go a long ways towards avoiding war conflicts in the future. For example, if Americans and Russians had more direct communications then I believe both sides would realize we would like be friends with one another and stop believing all of the propaganda from both of our governments.

Federal Right to Safe Housing Bill

By Rachel
Mon Oct 13 2014 1:39 pm

As long as restaurants are required, by law, to provide toilet facilities for their customers, and cities are required, by law, to process the sewage that comes from those facilities, nations that benefit from highly competitive economies that, by their nature, create those who lose and suffer, must be held accountable for mitigating such suffering, to whatever degree the wealth they enjoy permits.

We have long been wealthy enough as a nation to use the crumbs that fall from our table to meet this moral obligation. All the components needed can be sourced by tapping the second-use market or from materials destined to be dumped. Further, advances in solar energy capture make a growing portion of the energy needed for such a system potentially free.

The federal bill that would oblige government, at every level, to collaborate in creating and maintaining this safety net would guarantee every individual under jurisdiction the following:
- a safe place to sleep,
- adequate sanitation facilities,
- provision for washing one's clothes (by hand, at minimum),
- an adequate diet,
- potable water,
- publicly-owned telephone and internet access,
- adequate lighting and heat.

The resources to do this are well within reach, but the moral fiber and will required to actualize it will have to be developed if we are justifiably able to lay claim to being a truly advanced nation. Part of that process will require laying aside the tendency to look down on people we consider to be losers, ne'er-do-wells, reprobates and social outcasts, and just be thankful that we don't share their lot in life. The state of Utah has shown this open-handed approach to be much more cost-effective in getting people back on their feet than assistance provided on a more conditional basis. It is well known that people who have been helped get back on their feet are generally more likely to help others get back on their feet than those who have never suffered similarly. The best way to heal society is to ensure that those who have the most acute subjective knowledge of the problem are put in the best position to becoming part of the solution. I call this lateral social assistance, as opposed to hierarchical.

This bill of a right to housing should be the cornerstone of a new approach to all matters of housing, including rental housing, that spin off from it.

Also posted on IdeaStormz- The Requirement to Fail, a review on essays.

By Caleb
Fri Oct 3 2014 2:46 pm

The Requirement to fail
Caleb Woodman, Rampart High School
The world has many faults, but the greatest is the essay. Some time ago, I considered the worst thing in the world to be the short constructed response. Now the glaring truth is fully evident. The essay is a writing format, usually with a time limit attached, that teachers are forced to assign to students, who in turn are forced to do them. An of this type has three major problems attached; A time limit, a controlled prompt, and specific things that must be mentioned. This is not how you get creativity or even an honest answer. The possibilities are endless only for those whose limits aren’t.

First, let us take a look at the accursed time limit. This thing is required so that children can’t postpone to the end of time as we know it, or work our entire lives on the same useless drivel. However, putting a limit on a child is akin to putting a low budget on a world-changing project. Yes, the results are still legitimate, though rushed, but there is still a limit on the creativity and ability, and that means one cannot work up to one’s total potential. Instead, I propose that we have a chance at our work in a business fashion. We should have time to examine facts, draft, redraft, edit, etcetera. We should not have to experience that stressing feeling of rush that comes with a time limit on things. Instead, we should work like we do in a real-life situation, with a deadline not so imminent that we cannot even work properly. Note that I do not propose longer time per se, I propose that we as students are given flexible time and above all, no requirement to do everything simultaneously. Let them breathe between paragraphs for their own sake and yours as someone required to measure achievement!

A controlled prompt has long been considered by students and their mentors alike a necessary evil, but some disagree. Yes, it is indeed evil, but in no way or means is it truly a necessity. A controlled prompt is a further barrier, even worse than a limit on time, because you are not only controlling how long your students have to prove their ability to learn and create, you are prohibiting creativity to an amazing degree! I could write about billions of things, from personal experiences to scientific studies to things that are pleasing in life. With a limit on what I can produce, there is a limit on what I can prove. Say, for example’s sake, that you have a child who knows more than any child about physics. Now say that he doesn’t know very much about waterfowl. If you tell him to tell you about waterfowl, no matter how much he knows about anything else or how creative he is in any field, the failing score on his test will prove to the teacher, principal, superintendent, and to the board of education that this boy is not capable of writing skills or formulating good ideas. Say another child hates anatomy, but loves geometry. Her mind is oriented in a way that makes her “care”, as it were, for anatomy and therefore her scope of thinking in that subject far lower than for geometry, which she is “open” to. Test her on anatomy and coming up with ideas and having a broad scope of ideas and facts in that area, and you will find that she is a terrible writer. At least that is what it is in our current setup in our educational system.

The third topic of interest here is ‘what must be mentioned’. For example, for the prompt I am writing for, (meta writing,) I am required to give three examples for why I think the world would be a better place with my idea in effect, changing the way we write. Then I must have specific details, and include certain things in my writing. Granted, having these things is not a “big deal”, but it is still a pain in the neck. If you have to mention certain things, you can’t mention the things that prove you a good writer or things that you feel need to be stated. Therefore the only children who can actually prove they aren’t little mindless controlled creatures bound with a thousand requirements to the face of bad education are those who make rebellious essays, and insult or criticize the system that binds them. Teachers find such things amusing, but now there is psychological work to be done and questions to be asked. If you let the students choose their own details, you let them choose how they learn. It is a proven fact that people who are given freedom are the smartest and the most able of the lot.

The time limit, the prescribed topic, and the necessary detail. Three things that I find abhorrent in our culture. We so often speak of being Americans, with free will and personalized education. How lucky we are! And yet we are limited in our education with things like prompts. I write this very paragraph with the knowledge that it must be mostly commentary, with no new facts, and cannot include certain over-cliched phrases, as well as having some required ones. If this is how we write, how do we prove that we are actually capable writers? One does not tell your everyday writer to write a novel about a certain thing, within a certain time, including a certain detail or five. We cannot adequately prove our ability to be worthwhile in this world if we couldn’t care less about the subject matter, can’t work within the limits, can’t include these things that we need to prove we know. Education itself is perverted in this matter by a flurry of limits that one can’t dig out of with a shovel. Remove these, let us work at our own pace, on our own ideas, with our own details. Freedom for the smart makes them the wise.

Mid-air projection?

By Amelia
Thu Oct 2 2014 7:46 pm

So, you know in Sci-Fi movies/books they always have that green projection that pops up that they can use it to draw, ect.? Well, I have an idea that may be completely impossible but maybe not? So, there is matter that is denser than others, right? Well, what if we could maybe hold that matter in a certain place without it visibly there but it is still denser then the other matter around it. We could have a (machine) that creates this matter on one side of the wall and a projector on the other side. So when the "matter" machine is turned on, the matter will only go so far and the projector can project onto the denser matter rather than one wall where some can't see. With this, a projector can project in the middle of the room in a see-through fashion where everyone can see comfortably! This may be a long shot, but It sounds possible.

Self powered roaster grill

By Basadi
Thu Sep 11 2014 7:32 am

This idea solves the use of batteries or electricity from direct sources to power roaster grills. Using batteries involves a lot of tme waste in charging battery from electrical source and pluging it to an electrical source does not facilitate the use of the machine in areas where there is no electrical supply.
When burning fuel during roasting or grilling process a lot of energy is lost in the form heat, this energy can be capitalized on to produce electrical energy through an integrated small thermoelectric generator. The electrical energy created will be stored to power the rotation of rotisserie, ignite fuel, control of temperature in grill and light led bulbs during night cookings. This will facilitate the use of roaster grills anywhere regardless to whether there is electricity or not. No more worries on frequent spendings on battries or adding up numbers to your bill because spendings on charcoal or gas will cover the whole energy needs for the roaster grill. You can easily turn meat or vegetable with turning grill. Do not worry about burnig of meat because you can set the maximum temperature in grill with temperature controller.

Luxury bicycle

By Maclovio
Tue Jul 15 2014 12:04 pm

Bicycles built like automobiles for adult transportation. Built-in headlights, tail lights, flashers, stop lights, turn signals, horns, speedometer, odometer. All controls within convenient reach of the handle grips so the rider doesn't have to remove his hands from the grips to operate the controls. The bike should be light weight, suitable for roads and improved trails and should have multiple gears for hilly terrain.

at some point a villain should win. there should be no higher moral purpose just a film where the bad guy wins because that's how the real world works, audiences will be pissed off but this will only make them more determined to see the sequel. I suppose I''m thinking of super hero movies while I write this.

My idea is to innovate the conventional tyre/tire inflation system we use at gas/petrol stations. It could be a lot more easier and faster. I have in mind the full concept that is viable to be given shape. My ideas have been rewarded/recognised globally in the past. Please see my blog

shock-safe-app

Wed Apr 23 2014 2:25 am

these days we hear a lot about receiving shock or explosion of mobile battery while handling phone while charging is ON. Now we can avoid this by designing one APP that keeps the mobile in LOCKED condition during charging and will not allow the user to unlock to use the phone during charging by alerting the user that the phone is under CHARGING MODE. This will invariably force the user to disconnect the phone from electricity point and use it.

The Cooler ReDesigned

By Sarah
Mon Mar 10 2014 6:11 pm

Problem: The cooler box design has remained virtually unchanged since its inception. Coolers are heavy and bulky BEFORE you even add ice! Once cooler boxes are full with ice, food, and beverages they become extremely heavy and awkward. It may take 2-4 people to move a full cooler to the soccer field, beach, campsite, or wherever you need it to go!
Solution: Science has provided us with lightweight, strong, and durable advanced materials. By using these new materials, the cooler box can be lighter than ever while remaining rigid and strong and possibly become more effective. Utilizing advanced materials can possibly reduce the weight of the cooler by nearly 50-75% allowing a single person to move a full cooler to wherever it needs to go!

Is God Real?

By Tyler
Mon Feb 24 2014 12:41 pm

Who is crazy? Am I crazy? In the world today there are two very different possibilities for why we exist and how we came to be. There are two theories, which answer these questions and provide a framework for answering more of life’s difficult questions, the Theory of Evolution and the Theory of Creation. These ideas are very different and cannot co-exist. There is no grey area between these two black and white ideas. They CANNOT both exist, therefore, if we find evidence that one of them is true, the other must be false. Though, in today’s society, there are individuals who stand for each and believe their theory is correct. This is clearly a battle of Science vs. Religion. Both science and religion are ways that humans explain and rationalize “why?” and “how?” questions. Religion provides answers through ancient writings and ideas, most of which do not apply to life today. These ancient ideas have been translated a countless amount of times, into what is now, modern American English. It is through religion, in which, irrational people attempt to obtain answers. Science takes beliefs and/or theories, considers the reasoning behind them and tries to disprove them. If they cannot be disproved and are rational, they are thought to be true. Rational people use science and proof provided in the world, to further educate themselves and mankind as a whole. To believe in religion is to take the easy way out, and amass all of nature and everything in the world to one higher power, ONE, SINGLE higher power. Immediately, this strikes me as impossible, and something an irrational person would believe. If this is true, and there is a higher power, who is infinitely powerful and extremely loving of all people, why is there evil? Why is there disease? Why is there tragedy? If there is a higher power, who has the power to control all people, wouldn’t people who do unthinkably horrible acts be rid of this world? If we do go to “a better place” when we die, why doesn’t everyone kill themselves?
In the United States the overwhelmingly most popular religion is based on Christianity, which is based upon the Bible. The Bible was written over 2000 years ago, as a way to answer life’s tough questions. Back in those times, there were many, many, many different theories for our existence and an uncountable amount of different stories. Many of these stories dealt with figures similar to Jesus and “God”. For example, in Ancient Egypt, before the creation of the Bible, there was a son of their God Osiris, named Horus. He was born from a virgin mother, as was Jesus said to be. That may provoke curiosity among some people. But wait, the similarities do not stop there. There are an overwhelming number of events and similarities between these two ancient characters, Horus and Jesus. These include, a break in life history: No data between ages of 12 & 30, age at baptism: 30, subsequent fate of the baptizer: beheaded, walking on water, casting out demons, healing the sick, restoring sight to the blind, being crucified, descending into Hell and resurrection after three days. There are many other figures with similarities to Jesus in ancient times. Why is it that all of those stories are considered to be false, but the Bible isn’t? The stories of the Bible are so incredibly impossible with what we now know about science. These primitive, ancient people did not know the things we know today. So why is it that we still accept their beliefs?
As humans, over the years we have came so incredibly far as a species, though, we still have a far way to go. In order for mankind to advance farther, we need to unify our beliefs of science vs. religion. All people need to abandon the comforting ideas that are religion. We need to realize that there isn’t a higher power. Ultimately, we need to realize we are the only authority over our own life. This is the next step for humanity so we can further advance and evolve. I realize that religion gives people satisfaction that the hard questions in life do have an answer. Frankly, with our knowledge today, some questions cannot be answered with certainty. It may be unsettling for people to believe that some questions cannot be answered. I’m sorry if I am the one breaking this news to you, but as humans we DO NOT know everything. Today, there are people attempting to find a cure for cancer. If we evolved from primates or another more primitive species, that fact may hold the answer for how to cure cancer. If we were created by a higher power, how would we find a cure? We may have to try and think of what the higher power was thinking when they created this horrible disease and devise a way to reverse it? Or would we just pray that it goes away? We cannot believe that praying is the answer any longer. That is the easy answer and the easy way out. In history, the easy way out has been found to be false many, many times. For example, everyone in the Middle Ages believed the earth was flat. The people could not see it any other way and thought individuals who believed otherwise were insane. Do we still believe that? Of course not, we have found evidence that contradicts that and we dropped that belief from society. We have found evidence that humans have evolved from more primitive species, though we still accept religion? For example, the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells. There is definitive evidence that mitochondria were actually a free-living microbe, when it somehow ended up inside a cell. This cell was better equipped to live in its environment. Due to natural selection, this microbe and the host cell both benefitted from the endosymbiotic relationship inside the host, so it made its way into the genome. Today all eukaryotes have mitochondria because of this natural selection process. So now that this has been proven, why do we still believe we were created by a higher power? We are such an advanced species, but we still cling to these ancient beliefs. This is because humans always want answers. It is part of us to want our questions answered. Most people cannot understand the fact that there may be unanswerable questions, at this time on earth. Due to this quality/defect in our species, we answer these hard questions with “God.” Answering “How did humans come about?” with something to do with a higher power, is such a primitive way of reasoning. We are so intelligent why do we believe that someone/something is controlling our lives?
I believe that we evolved into the species we are today.
If I am in fact wrong, I need some sort of proof other than irrational stories from an ancient book. Some people claim that they have spoken to “God.” This influences them to make the decisions they do in life. For example, there have been people that have killed their own children, killed other people with different beliefs and many more, with the reason that “God told me to.” So, how is it that they are rational individuals, but I am not because I do not believe there is a higher power? The human brain is the single most powerful feature of any organism on earth. It has the power to make an individual believe things that are not true and not realistic. If you believe you are sick hard enough, your body will start showing symptoms of being sick. If you believe that there is a God hard enough, your conscious may fabricate hallucinations inside your head that you spoke with a God. In science, this is a condition known as schizophrenia. People who suffer from schizophrenia experience hallucinations that do not reflect reality. The people that believe they have spoken to a God are thought to be some of the most powerful individuals in the religious community. What if this is merely hallucinations? Why do people worship these individuals and take their words as the words of a God?
There are people in this world that truly believe there is a higher power. For those people, there is nothing that can change their minds. I feel sympathy towards these mentally ill people. If I am in fact the one who is mistaken about this topic, I will take responsibility for my incorrectness, and follow whatever “God” may actually exist. Until I see some sort of evidence, I will not believe. There are too many incredible advances that science has brought to humanity for us to completely abandon it in favor of religion.

Human Advancement-Are We Doing It Right?

By Asa
Sat Nov 9 2013 10:34 am

To the World,

The human desire for greatness has always been viewed as something that strengthens mankind. Is our constant advancement and building the best way to do things though? Undoubtedly, advancement and technology are essential aspects to our growth, but take a look around. The first world is ever progressing, while the second and third worlds are still struggling to keep caught up, or alive. While one may argue that the cultural pyramid needs a base to sit upon, I ask, is it essential that it is a pyramid? Why not a tower, or better yet, a floating castle? As those with the resources and ability to make new and improved things push forward without end, they leave behind millions upon millions to struggle to reach a point where they may relax every once and a while.

The first world, including many countries in North America and Western Europe, have technological development for the past few hundred years. In 2007, the first iPhone came out. Email was developed in 1971, and the internal combustion powered car was patented in 1879. Today, the first world enjoys luxuries like cars, computers, readily available food, clean water, electricity, a surplus of clothes, access to medicine, and education. In many developing third world countries, however, these developments and amenities are something to marvel at. The great industrialization of our world has seemingly passed them by. They may struggle everyday for food, clean water, shelter, and warmth. Many will never have an education. And yet we are conceited enough with our Master's Degrees and PhD's to develop the next frivolous smartphone and put it on our capitalist market.

Oftentimes we compare world development to a pyramid, with a base of common "peasants" and a pinnacle representing the elite. We say that in order to keep reaching higher, we need to have the base to support us. But a tower stands on the same size base as the rest of itself. Any part of a tower could take the role of base, as there would not be a massive disparity in the classes. We could find a way to move as many from the lower tiers up as possible, giving them access to those adaptations and technologies we have. We could even make a model like a castle floating in the sky, ideally, where nobody is stuck near the ground, and everybody has access to those things they need, that we have.

We, the first world, have all the resources to compete on the global market, offer education and healthcare, and develop new ways to make life easier. We are constantly pushing forward, aspiring for greatness, while those millions are left in poverty. They live every day without enough food or water, without a blanket at night, under a leaking roof, or none at all. We live with so much food it is becoming the norm to be obese. We have virtually unlimited water, right out of the tap. We sleep with three blankets and two pillows at night. We have a warm, dry house to live in. They do not. Is this right?
We who live in the first world press ever onward, leaving behind so many in poverty. Some say it is necessary to have a base for the developmental pyramid to sit on, but perhaps it is not. We push forward, and leave behind millions upon millions that are not even approaching our level of development. Perhaps, perhaps we should slow down, and help our brothers and sisters catch up, before pushing forward anymore.

Signed,
Asa Cameron

system for vehicle and traffic co-ordination

By prashant
Sat Nov 9 2013 12:35 am

FIELD OF THE INVENTION:

The present invention relates to a traffic and vehicle coordination system, and more particularly to a system that identify problem drivers/vehicle, coordinate with street lights, traffic signals and take action against on violation of speed limits and
traffic rules also monitor the emergency situation and provide the proper guidance and can also save the vehicle from accident.

FEATURES OF THE INVENTION-

a) The System will not allow any vehicle to break traffic signals.

b) The system will not allow any vehicle to drive by exceeding the speed limit

c) The system will not allow any vehicle to drive from wrong side

d) The system will save the energy that is use on street lights

e) The system will save the life of any vehicle driver by controlling his vehicle if he is in danger

f) The system will not allow anyone to drive without licence

g) The system will provide the vehicle driver the facility that without his permission no one can drive his vehicle
only the people he want can drive

h) The system will have its full control over the every vehicle that is running on the road and it will be able to take the action
against them at that instant only if it found they are violating any traffic rule

PRESENT TRAFFIC SITUATION'S:

Today we know that Problem of traffic controlling is become more intense with increased number of vehicles on roads.
High speed driving followed by exceeding speed limits has become very common and there are various traffic control system that
monitor speed of vehicles that identify vehicles that exceed the speed limits. Such systems only check if the vehicles follow the
traffic rules or not. The monitoring is done with the help of few sensors and one or more cameras.

The traffic control system don’t have any control over the crimes that are done using vehicles such as bank robbery or like
kidnapping and many more crimes that are done through the vehicle this control system can only monitor the vehicles but can’t stop them and the system need a lot of maintenance

Therefore, there is a need of traffic control system that monitors vehicles along with the drivers, and penalizes those who violate
traffic rules. A system is also needed that monitors and stores history of each vehicle driver for future reference.

So we made a system Traffic and vehicle co- ordination system , This system is having advantages over all other project that are
related to traffic safety and security because the system will not only monitor the vehicle but will also take action against them

OPERATIONS-

1. Speed limit-

T he system will continuously keep on checking the speed of
vehicles(to check the speed or any other operation there will be
no need of any sensor or cameras our system is maintenance free)
and if it found that any vehicle has exceeded the speed limit then
the system will send a message the vehicle driver to reduce the
speed and will again check either he is in limit or not , if the driver
reduce the speed then the system will not take any action but if it
found that he is not following the rule and not reducing the speed
then the system will stop the vehicle and the driver can’t drive
any vehicle until he has paid the fine , so this will help to reduce
the accident that are cause due to high speed driving.

2. Traffic signal-

The system will keep on monitoring the vehicles and if the
system found that any vehicle break the traffic signal it will
send a message to the vehicle to take the vehicle to one side and
stop if the vehicle driver is not following the instruction then the
system will make him stop by stopping the vehicle . The system
will also check the strength of traffic on the road and adjust the
traffic signal to save the time of drivers.

3. Licence to drive-

Every vehicle driver will need licence to drive his vehicle
without licence no one will be able to drive the licence nor
any one can’t use some one else licence to drive only the
people who are authorized to drive can only drive ,even the
system will not any one to drive the vehicle without the
owner permission.

4. Energy saver -

We know that there any many places where there is no one the street but still the street lights are on so the
system will save the energy of street lights by sensing the
objects on the street and will control the lights according to
it .

5. Life saver-

Many time we found that the accident are cause because
the vehicle enter in a restricted area where some
work is going on like old bridges and this causes
accident but now if some one is going in such a area where
he can caught a accident then the system will alarm the
vehicle driver to change his direction and if he is not
changing the direction the system will consider it as a
technical problem in the vehicle and will stop the vehicle to save the driver life

6. Drive at your side –

The system will keep on checking the direction of
driving of vehicles and if it found any vehicle driving
from wrong side it will message the vehicle to drive
from right side and if he is not following the instruction
the system will take the action against the vehicle

CONCLUSION-

At last we want to conclude that today there is a need of such
kind of system for traffic and vehicle safety as it also required
low maintenance and can be easily installed in vehicles at a
low cost and better then the other security system that are
used today

a new engine design.

By devansh
Thu Nov 7 2013 9:04 pm

i am thinking that we could make a really fast car by adding an extra fuel space in the engine.at this stage we use an engine that burns the fuel when frictions with the upper spark plug and pushes the piston downwards.what if we also release some fuel at the bottom of the engine and adding an extra spark plug at the bottom of the engine.so when it is thrown donwards by the upper compartment,it is thrown upwards by the lower compartment as well.this makes a car really fast.

Computer programming could be taught as language arts.

By Beads
Sun Sep 1 2013 6:22 pm

If you can write a cooking recipe, a knitting pattern, or directions to the local supermarket, you can write a machine language program.

Yet formal training in computer programming is generally limited to those who demonstrate proficiency in higher mathematics.

Providing an alternate educational path to programming languages, as languages, would democratize these skills and help to counter the gender imbalance in technology fields.

'All the high-school students will be taught the fundamentals of computer technology will become proficient in binary arithmetic and will be trained to perfection in the use of the computer languages that will have developed out of those like the contemporary “Fortran.”'

WiFi Tree

By Lahiru
Sat Aug 24 2013 9:40 am

My Idea is simple
it can be used to grow trees in arias that have low water supply

The Idea is to plant a tree that comes with solar powered wifi hotspot and a moisture sensitive switch on the wifi hotspot
so any one who pour water in to our baby tree gets free wifi

I think this way is so suitable for urban cause lot of people with smart phones and wifi enable devices
and the its hard to implement a dedicated water supply for each plant we plant

for this method we only need simple hardware + ISP and that cost less

Local Hero Exchange

By Dean
Wed Aug 7 2013 6:17 am

Local Hero Exchange is basically a media repository that records the local heroes of local communities. Pictures and text rotate about heroes on a screen.

We have all these brilliant role models dead, dying off or alive that do not get projected to inspire others. Schools, doctor surgeries, and just about any waiting room can have a screen rotating the pictures and information on local and international heroes.

The inspirational value of a hero is often greatest in the region they operated in or originated from. The more people can identify with a hero then the more inspired they can be.

Locals would also like to know about international heroes that had an affect on the local community. Screen savers and waiting rooms can be made more productive and positively suggestive at least to the subconcious. Perfect as an extension to an institution like Wikipedia, UN, State or Federal governments.

Power up low-end mobile device

By Deepak
Sat Jul 27 2013 1:46 am

Its a small idea to power up low end mobile devices. We all know high end applications and games won't run on low processing devices. We can connect our devices to computer using cables. So may be we can go for a parallel processing. If a low end devices is connected to a computer and and the mobile device is going to run a high end application, the computer resources will be shared to mobile device. And the computer will help the device to run the application. I know currently arm v7 type processors are using in mobile devices and in the case of computer its totally different. May be we can simulate the processing to achieve our goal.

The Good News Channel

A television or internet webpage channel that only broadcasts good news to people. ie: Parades, Child Births, Stories with amazing / good outcomes, the weather. I present this idea to the internet community in hopes that people will stop concentrating so much on the negative things in life. I'm sure there are a lot of people that can make the argument: "Violence sells!" But I'm pretty sure there is just as many people who would love to see something NEW and INSPIRING to watch every day. Instead of things like the Andrew Zimmerman case, people getting killed, and robberies. IF anyone can try to collaborate or brainstorm on this idea with me feel free to post here, i will try to keep checking up on this website. Thanks a lot

Direct democracy

By David
Wed Jun 5 2013 12:21 pm

The idea of being able to participate in the decision-making processes of local communities is crystallizing before our very eyes. In Chicago, for example, some community representatives are allowing residents to directly vote on how to allocate portions of their discretionary budget for public projects. This also takes place in parts of Brazil. Taking these ideas to scale by voting for more measures our representatives usually vote on would flatten out inequalities and power vacuums.

By Shilpa
Tue Jun 4 2013 5:02 pm

Along with the normal electric charging, it would be so great if the mobiles can be charged in sun. So if we are on a beach or in a park we don't have to think about battery getting low. With so much dependency on phone these days it has become imperative for companies to start thinking about how the battery life can be improved or find out alternative means to charge.

Making it easier to find good books in QC

By Loren
Sat Jun 1 2013 4:17 pm

It would be better if the science section of an unnamed library had some indication what books were popular, such as a star on the binding or something. I know, "unprofessional", but these days, things need to "pop", mainly because so much is competing for our attention.

We could have a site that helps us find better books

By Loren

Sometimes, university libraries have like 15 copies of a book in various editions. That is a good indication that it is a good book. We could keep track of discoveries like this on a web site.

I don't know, but the book was well written.

School Gardens/Mini Farms

By Jason
Wed May 8 2013 2:48 pm

Every elementary, middle, high school, and college should have a large garden or mini farm that produces fruits, veggies, herbs, ect... by the teachers and students.

Schools have plenty of ground space to cultivate such a thing. The town I grew up in had about 6 elementary schools, 1 middle, 1 high school. That could make up for 8 mini farms all supplying their own cafeteria and putting people back in touch with the roots of where their food comes from. Schools could have farmers markets to sell to locals and food establishments.

I am a teacher. Whist sitting at home on a hot bank holiday and doing some marking on past papers I came across this ingenious idea that will solve teachers time, energy, effort in marking. Students all over the world who are sitting GCSEs and A levels in the UK do many past papers. The solution I have will benefits teachers all over the world in many countries. The idea is very simple. You can write the answers on a device like a tablet pc for example mini ipad or even traditional computer. Then this is linked to a modern electronic teachers ink stamp. The answers written on the pc could then be sent to the teachers ink stamp. The next step is the ink stamp is then used by the teacher on the past exam papers on mistakes made by teaches. There are huge commercial benefits to this idea in countries like Germany, USA, France and many more.

Bringing Kind Voices Together

By David
Thu Apr 18 2013 10:36 am

In a time of terrible tragedies that leave us all feeling helpless, it is important for kind voices to come together and be clearly heard.

To do this we are wanting to create a series of local talents shows that asks people to reach down and connect with their best selves to produce kind words and music. The 2nd and 3rd links on this post has examples of what we are hoping to receive.

Our other goal is to raise awareness for our program, whose mission is to make our world a kinder, more connected place one conversation at a time.

We are looking to connect with local civic and religious groups, radio and tv stations to help organize and promote these events. We are also hoping to get a celebrity spokesperson.

Social Security - Progressive Retirement Age

By Peter
Sat Apr 13 2013 11:13 am

Raising the retirement age further for Social Security (its currently scheduled to be 67) is a non-starter for most liberals. Its correctly pointed out that the less affluent die at a younger age and often work in industries which are too strenuous to allow for later retirement.

My idea would enable people at the low-end of the benefits spectrum to actually begin collecting SS earlier than current law while those at the higher end retire later.

The idea is to simply place benefit dollar caps at various retirement ages. A simplified approach would be to set the benefits cap for retiring at 65 at a level where 30 percent of beneficiaries are scheduled to receive less than this amount. (The cap would be $1,000 per month if 30 % are to receive $1,000 or less and 70% are schedule to receive more than $1,000)

We might put the cap for 67 years at the 60% level, 68 years at the 75% level,69 years at the 90 % level and then no cap for 70 or beyond.

So, basically anybody who chooses to retire before age 70 will receive the lower of (the cap for the age they selected or their scheduled benefit. Once they select their retirement age this will be their base benefit forever (subject to cola increases etc)

The affect of this will be to allow lower income beneficiaries to retire at an earlier age without incurring any penalties. The bottom 60% of the distribution can retire at the currently planned retirement age of 67 without incurring any penalty. Only those in the top 40 % will need to retire later to receive their full benefit. The top 10% will need to retire at age 70 to receive their full benefit (of course they can choose to retire earlier at the reduced benefit levels set by the caps)

Obviously the caps could be adjusted, the ones I chose were just for illustration. I believe that this plan would save tens of billions per year (more than the chained cpi) while shielding 60% of the beneficiaries from any reductions in benefits and allowing the bottom 30% to actually retire earlier.

Making Cars With Magnets.

By Edward
Tue Apr 9 2013 10:09 pm

My idea proposes that we as a society could potentially make cars with magnets so that we could rid our lives of the need for oil. All that would be needed is to put large magnets on the sides, front, back, and bottom of the car. You don't even need tires because the car would float and be stablized by the side, rear and front magnets. The roads would have magnets in them of the same pole so they would repel each other.

I thought of that, too- another benefit is that car accidents would be prevented if the cars repelled each other. Are you saying that we wouldn't need oil because the road's magnetic field would pull the cars along?

Our plan is to give this idea a major overhaul, start the app from scratch, and build it the way that YOU want - with the features YOU want! We will first look to build a simple, successful iPhone app and expand to other mobile devices from there! We would also like to create a website with the ability to display "Family Vacation" or "Date Night" photos. Development will start as soon as we receive the funds! We are taking this app to a new level, but we CANNOT do it without you!

Make peer teaching a big thing

By Victoria
Tue Mar 12 2013 5:35 pm

Letting students who are doing well in class help others is a concept that teachers are probably not very familiar with - but given the chance this could be invaluable for teachers and students alike. Teachers would have the opportunity to see that their methods are working and students can use their knowledge to help others. While this does happen to some extent now, making learning more active in ways such as this will mean students get a range of teaching skills.

"Imagine a Digital Library in Every Bus or Train"

By Liz
Mon Mar 11 2013 8:09 am

This idea comes from the Atlantic Cities!

"A group of students at the Miami Ad School envision putting that technology to decidedly more pleasurable use. "Underground Library," designed by Max Pilwat, Keri Tan and Ferdi Rodriguez, proposes a series of advertisements for the New York Public Library where a quick swipe could send the first ten pages of a book right to your phone.

After you've finished your sample, upon emerging from the subway, a map points the way to the nearest library location. The system would use near field communication (NFC), a technology capable of wireless data transmission over short distances, so that it works in non-wired tunnels."

Viewing and analyzing the connections of companies with unneeded, unsafe products, who have had government contracts

By Shlomo
Fri Mar 8 2013 2:07 pm

There are several companies, best exemplified by Monsanto, how have been cleared to release unsafe chemical, biological, and genetically modified products, despite lack of testing to insure their safety for the health of all involved. Monsanto was the company that gave us agent orange, a chemical defoliant used in Vietnam, that was found to cause a wide host of sever harmful reactions to anyone exposed to it. They are also the company that brought the bovine growth hormone, meant to make cow produce more milk, that has been proved to have many negative affects, and was released and pushed on to farmers when we had a milk surplus.

We must all look at companies like this and question how they are able to get their products on the market. They have made a pesticide for tobacco, that has been banned for use in the US, but not in Turkey. The tobacco treated with this in Turkey is then sold to the Camel cigarette company, which then is sold in the US.

How are these loop holes allowed to exist and why does the government either facilitate or turn a blind eye to these issues

Solution, a more personal government, gamification of government

By Jonathan
Thu Feb 21 2013 6:39 pm

After learning about the barriers to solving social problems I thought of solution. I was learning from the book "How can we solve our social problems":

Solution, a more personal government, gamification of government: I want to start a cause to have a week where every individual can choose where their taxes go or they could earn the ability to choose where a certain percentage of their income goes. What percentage they can control depends on how society oriented they are. If they prove to have understanding of government services and prove to be wise social investors and are completely dedicated to social progress and prove it then they can completely control their tax allocation. To increase responsible allocation of funds participants should prove they are socially responsible, having the highest interest in improving society, and they should prove understanding of government processes. Hence, they can qualify for the optional program by learning about how to govern society. Anyone who passes the free course can choose what services to contribute to among many options and there would be a way to create your own service, program, action, organization, or cause to fund. To make it easier to decide, a computer program would evaluate the individual to see what he values and the degree to which he values different services of the nation. For example he could choose how much he values education or the FBI. This way people would learn the value of each part of the government and greater appreciate the parts This would make agencies have to prove their worthiness to the public. He would get to decide what percentage of his contribution goes to each service. Government agencies would be advertising and proving the quality of their services to the public. This program would increase the efficiency and accountability of each service the government provides. New services would be created bypassing the need for elections and extensive voting. People would organize themselves to spend their funds most effectively. Also, you could choose someone you trust to distribute your funds for you instead of a political party choosing for you. Then government would become personal and an intimate activity you can be passionate about. It would be more representative of people's desires.

Easy way to report black carbon-emitting trucks and buses

By David
Thu Feb 21 2013 8:58 am

Ever get stuck behind a truck belching black fumes into the air? These black carbon particulates are bad for the environment. Last year Secretary of State Hillary Clinton introduced an initiative to reduce black carbon, as well as methane and soot. (http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2012/02/184055.htm) I think it would be wise to set up a call number that would allow commuters to inform the state-level EPA or Department of Motor Vehicles about such trucks or buses so they can get tested, or if necessary fined, for their pollution.

A More Modest Proposal Concering Education

By Anna
Fri Feb 15 2013 9:14 am

My teacher has recently taken up a new pastime of walking around and recording what she approves and disapproves of while we do activities. Does she really think that putting her observations on the bored will change anything?

" I saw people sharing ideas. I also saw many people having off topic conversations. I need to see more of people staying on task and less of people being unfocused. If you guys can become engaged you will remember this information forever. " I'm paraphrasing here.

How in the world are we suppose to be engaged? We read and take notes for 20 minutes on material in a boring text book and then you want us to have an engaging conversation? It's nothing but a joke. I could care less who contributed what to the discovering of DNA. The teacher is a good person and a much better teacher than many others but she doesn't make her class interesting by any means. I could be at a job earning useful money or having fun but instead I'm in a classroom with 20+ other students who are wishing they weren't there.

This is the reason why kids hate school. Most adults would reply with "well that's what needs to be done so those spoiled kids have to toughen up or suffer the consequences later on" and a few months ago I would have agreed with them. I am extremely lucky to have some teachers that understand how we feel and they do everything in their power to make their classes interesting. Those are the classes that students enjoy going to, that kids actually learn stuff in. But more recently I've been stuck in a class that I honestly sometimes would almost rather pull my hair out than continue staying in.

I bet you didn't know this but I make all A's and I've made all A's my entire graded life. If I had read what I'm writing now I would expect some lazy kid who is complaining and blaming others for their poor performance in school. But maybe people will listen to a person who does all her work even through the boring and seemingly unusefulness of it all.

Okay we know students don't do their work because it is boring that's a given. Students need to be engaged but in order to be engaged students must want to learn. If topics are interesting kids will naturally ask questions and want to know more. So how do we make subjects interesting? I have no idea. Luckily I have been blessed with some teachers who can tie what we are learning to the real world, who challenge our minds to create solutions while addressing different perspectives, who help us identify patterns and can make students wonder, why? How can we get these teachers teaching every subject, even every class so no student is left wanting to skip school or give up on learning? We don't have enough teachers like this. Is it possible to train teachers to make their classes interesting? Sure we can give teachers fun lesson plans and tips on explaining how math relates to the real world but can we really alter their behavior into making something interesting?

We know we can't make every teacher into our favorite teacher so now what? Well maybe, and this is just an idea, we can share the work of the great engaging teachers to everyone. The Internet is really amazing. You can learn about anything with a click of a mouse. What if instead of being taught by teachers who skills varies from person to person students watch videos of the best, most engaging teachers teaching each subject. Of course people learn by doing. Worksheets, activities, and projects can all be given and linked by the teachers doing the videos. They can also post videos explaining each problem of the work or answer common questions. How would this work be graded though? Well clearly students can check their own work from the answer videos posted by the teacher but can the student be trusted to report the their true score? Wait, what if we don't have traditional grades. Grades are used to show how smart or hardworking a student is and is based off of participation, daily assignments, projects and tests. If a student is intelligent and works hard on their school work wouldn't that also appear on tests that's can be electronically given and graded? Wouldn't that also reduce the amount of man power needed in a school, decreasing the cost of providing ! education on our government? If students are given benchmark tests and adequate scores are not being shown then disciplinary actions may be taken. Unfortunately multiple choice and true false questions don't really show what people know, papers and short answer questions do.

Ugh but that means people would have grade that. Who would do the grading though? The teacher on the videos wouldn't because those videos would be given to huge amounts of students, one teacher simply wouldn't be able to grade all of that. Since many teachers will be extinct because their jobs would be replaced by videos they wouldn't grade the compositional work. We could pay and train people to be "professional graders" but who wants go to college just for that? Actually though, where there is a job there is someone willing to do it.

Maybe however, there will still be teachers. We need enough people to create new videos when new information is needed to be taught. Another thing, do we really want one person, even if they are a great teacher, teaching all of American the same subject? Do we really want to be all the same? How can innovations occur if everyone is having the same experiences? Given that we could have hundreds of teachers and materials, all qualified, to choose from.

Teachers don't just become great and engaging, they also learn by experience. That means we must have teachers still teaching in order to create teachers that will one day provide the best lessons for the nation. What if students have questions that are not answered by the video? They could consult with their peers. Students could also research their question online but is it safe for people to loose this much human interaction? Work can be completed individually or in groups of students depending on the assignment but this still causes a large loss of human interaction and personal experience so what if there was a teacher or two (depending on the size of the school) of every subject to aid in questions and further help? This would also mean we now have someone to grade papers.

Coming back to personal experiences, not every person is taking the same classes. Math, English, science and history will still all be required as well as other classes such as health. There is also a large variety of classes students now have the ability to take. Business, technology, mythology, journalism, astrology, language, sociology and many, many more classes are now accessible to students that were once not. A teacher in each one of these subjects may not be available to work at each school so students in these classes may not have personal help and they may need to send their papers away to be scored but it out ways not be able to take the class at all. What about art and music and gym and other hands on classes? Teachers can still teach these classes as they do today.

This system was not designed to isolate students and make them all complete the same work. On the contrary, this will engage students more and offer an abundance of recourses they hadn't had before. I've seen fellow peers give up on learning because the classes were mind numbingly boring or to hard to understand. In order to learn you must care about learning which is much easier if it is interesting. This isn't a solution to all our problems, just a more modest proposal to give opportunities to students.

Students will have to organize and rise up to demand a better education or just peer educate. That would not be hard to organize a peer education program. There was a philosophy podcast that was about a program that trained teachers to be more philosophical in their teaching, they would encourage more critical thinking too. I imagine it will be you to lead your fellow students to protest the poor education model, Montessori education might be a better option where the student chooses what and how they will learn. In college you can do independent contract learning or a prior learning assessment to get credit for what you learn outside the classroom. You can challenge the course and the objectives of any course from an accredited college. I learned of this from the edupunk guide. http://edupunksguide.org/ where I discovered http://www.learningcounts.org/ You need a DIY education, define your life values and dreams and study and do what you need to realize your goals, do not wait to start to teach yourself. You deserve a better education and should demand it from the government and the public. Learn the art of non-violent ways to get what you want. Learn from great effective leaders like Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela. Start a cause at www.Causes.org for more training of teachers to make them more interesting and devoted to the lives of the child and society. Educators must make students and society the goal of their lives. Require teachers to take a goal oriented discussions based type of learning with students. Strive for the creation of a student guided inquiry into knowledge where the role of the teacher would be to serve the student's interests, so then you get more motivated students. I can help you, I have an associates degree of arts and sciences and lots of self guided study. I am researching social problems and solutions currently. Thank you for your comment Jonathan! Our teachers try to push peer education however most group work falls flat due its it being boring. In my more intertesting classes peer discussions works well and students usually come to comprensive answers on their own. I wasn't expecting this to turn into a movement but I'm sick of seeing my peers fail at school and then failing at life. Having students choose their route is a good idea. My best friend is failing most of his classes but he has A's in the ones he enjoys and a B in his online course. Students like him have the potenial to succed but he is drowned by boring and usless classes. What good is a class if you are going to forget all of it in a year? I would love to see the government try this plan out after all they are legalizing marjuana in two states to test how things will work out. It costs 9,000-14,000 dollars per child I believe to send them to school for a year. This plan limits the numbeer of teachers needed which would reduce costs greatly so why not give it a try?

Internet

By Gail
Sat Feb 9 2013 1:31 am

I think high speed internet should be a right that everyone who has a device that bares the internet should be entitled to. I think this should be done by fireing everyone in social service accept those who are trained in Psychiatry, accounting, and Law, and using the money that you would have paid those employees with to give everyone the best internet possible.

Taking this action would solve many problems, not just the internet one. :)

Woop woop!

ACCESS NYC

By Gail
Sat Feb 9 2013 1:14 am

I suggest that the website that 311 tells everyone to access to see if they qualify for benefits, and also that gives you the option to apply online for medicaid, food stamps, and welfare, called ACCESSNYC.GOV

Actually be a real working website.

Because right now, (and for a month now,) it's been under construction. It's not real.

And still. To this very moment, 311 workers, social workers at centers all over the city, hospitals, and government representatives, are telling people to go to it, to find out information :).

But the site doesn't exist :).

I suggest that it start existing :).

Idea, Fin.

Cost effective alternative to the Olympic games

By Shireesh
Thu Feb 7 2013 7:04 pm

The olympic games have been accompanied by pomp, splendor, ceremony - and a huge waste of money by the nation hosting them. The (often newly built) grand stadiums, and venues have almost zero return on investment (ROI) once the games are over. The burden is especially hard on poor and developing countries where the money could be better spent on much needed social and poverty alleviating programs.

I propose that the olympic games be discontinued as a centralized, once every (x) years occuring, grand event. Instead, I propose that any existing facilities (stadia, venue) already built in any country be accredited (just as academic institutions are accredited) for their ability to accurately measure the "highest", "strongest" and "fastest"; the classic objective metrics of excellence in the Olympic games. Where the judging standards are subjective, for example in events such as diving, gymnastics, synchronized swimming etc., an accredited body of judges can travel to the venue/stadium where the applicant or team wishes to demonstrate their acumen.

Such a policy will allow anyone anywhere in the world to "compete" at any time in any event of his/her or the team's choice - subject to their passing the minimum qualification standards. For example, if a person in Sao Paolo, Brazil wished to run a 100 m event tomorrow, he could show up at any accredited stadium in the country, procure an appointment to run, and run on the prescribed day. If he is timed at less than the prevailing time for this event, he is designated the "Olympic champion" in that event.

In this scenario, the title of Olympic champion is not held for a particular length of time (as is now) but can be overturned as soon as someone "beats" that record in any accredited stadium/venue at any time. The proposed paradigm allows for much more "democratization" of sporting ability and a much more egalitarian way to measure success in a particular event without lowering standards

How not to let the beautiful game of soccer be decided by a penalty shootout

By Shireesh
Thu Feb 7 2013 7:00 pm

Twice now, the Euro 2012 soccer championships have had to be decided by a penalty shootout. Penalty shootouts do not ensure that the better team wins. I propose that the following criteria to be taken into account; with appropriate weightages given to each; to decide the winner of a soccer game. It seems a shame that the “beautiful game” should be decided by a penalty shootout; which is essentially a gamble and relegates the game to the same level as cricket.
1. Percent ball possession
2. Attempts on goal (those that hit the post or contact the goalkeeper)
3. Percent of completed passes with weightage given to those completed in the opponent’s half versus those completed in own half.
4. Number of times dispossessed.

Drought remedy

By Shireesh
Thu Feb 7 2013 6:52 pm

Genetically or mechanically engineer trees (flora) to capture water from the air via leaves and transpire the moisture out through the roots. This technology of capturing water from the air is increasingly being deployed in arid regions of the world, why not think of how to get plants to do this? This way, plants would actually irrigate the soil by capturing moisture from the air and transpiring it out through their roots.

Save water while washing dishes

By Charlie
Wed Jan 30 2013 1:26 pm

When washing dishes at the kitchen sink, I need the water to run only while rinsing. But because of the inconvenience of turning the water off and on, I leave the water running even when I don't need it.

I want a pedal that shuts the water off.

I've seen adaptations of medical "scrub room" plumbing, where the user uses a pedal to turn the water ON (see link). However, this requires users to learn how to use an unusual fixture.

I'd like to kitchen faucet to work normally for the uninitiated. Frequent users would learn to use the pedal to interrupt the water flow when the water isn't needed temporarily.

The same fixture could be installed on a bathroom sink for use while shaving.

Informal Logic could be a component of Secondary Education

By Kevin
Sat Jan 26 2013 10:43 am

With modern culture dominated by anti-intellectual advertising, students are at risk of growing into adult babies, compelled to act only for material reward. Informal logic may be an enticing way to rouse adolescents from this laziness by framing the curriculum as 'creative thinking.' The end goal, or final exam, being more of a transformation instead of a regurgitation of axioms.

Locate, map, and auction off land for conservation and other positive uses

By Matt
Tue Jan 22 2013 3:49 pm

The concept would find large swaths of land and attempt to purchase this land so that it can be put to good use. Hundreds of square miles of rainforest? Locate, map, and auction it off to be used for research and conservation. Underused wastelands? Vacant buildings and factories? Find them and auction them off to be put to good use.

The system would operate like a massive crowdfunding campaign: Individuals will locate land, etc. currently owned by certain interest groups and agree on a price, if the interest groups are interested in selling. Individuals and groups can then donate money to whatever cause/land purchase is in question. Their donations would only go through if the maximum goal is met or exceeded (i.e., if the land was able to be purchased). A certain amount of money would go towards the basic buy-out fee that the interest groups require, and a certain amount of money would go towards whatever plan(s) were put in place for the land.

There are many potential uses for this: purchasing land for conservation or research, building schools and charities, and providing space for any and all positive programs.

Start by Reading: Capitalism and Creativity

By Alice
Sun Jan 20 2013 8:25 am

Recently I've been reading two books side by side, concerning Capitalism, Generosity and Creativity. The first is "23 Things they don't tell you about Capitalism" by Ha-Joon Chang: a clear, user-friendly guide to the pitfalls of the current system. The second: "The Gift: How the Creative Spirit Transforms the World" by Lewis Hyde, is a compelling sociological study in gift giving traditions, gratitude and how the creative genius should cease to be neglected. Everyone who cares about the world as we know it should read these books.

Help Artists out by becoming a Weekend Art Dealer

By David
Sat Jan 19 2013 10:35 pm

Help Artists out by being a Weekend Art Dealer, there is so much complexity for artists to get their work seen, and the process is so expensive, so artists struggle to survive...

So wouldn't it be cool if on a part time basis, on the weekends, people that love art would, take a promising artist out to dinner, visit their studios, or places they have their art, and view their works of art.

Also these weekend art dealers, could get commissions for artists in trade for works of art. And they could sell the artists works, and help them do group shows. And create interest in their works...

These Weekend Art Dealers could also participate in many artists careers and eventually might become as successful as the full time art dealers.

We have to support our creative Humans if we want to stay Human!

David, I love this idea. I know many artists who are not represented in galleries and have been considering hosting gatherings in my home as a venue to showcase artists and their works. You have inspired me to give it a go.

Restaurants could offer separate checks to groups in exchange for automatic gratuity

By Doug
Wed Jan 16 2013 10:09 pm

When I go to a restaurant with a group of friends, I always feel guilty about asking for separate checks, mostly for fear of annoying the waiter. But when I think about it, it's pretty annoying that restaurant patrons—who, unless they are a family or a couple, would tend to prefer separate checks—are by default expected to calculate how much each person owes. It's always a fiasco: no one ever has correct change; no one wants to ask the waiter to change a 20; some people (but not all) want to pay with credit card; one or two people inevitably end up overpaying, or at least thinking they did.

Some restaurants are starting to modernize their technology in ways that make it easier for people in a group to pay separately. But for restaurants that can't afford an infrastructure update and don't want to make life hard for their employees, maybe they could start by encouraging customers to ask for separate checks, while charging automatic gratuity in exchange for the convenience. I, for one, would welcome the chance to be told exactly what I owe. Post-meal arithmetic always gives me indigestion.
