Dating partners / boyfriends could also be considered in domestic violence laws

"People who have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence against a dating partner and respondents to final dating violence protective orders are not prohibited by federal law from possessing firearms, nor are prohibited in many states from possessing firearms. Approximately half of intimate partner homicides are committed by abusive dating partners, and dating violence comprises approximately 80% of domestic violence law enforcement contacts."
