Refrigerant emissions could be environmentally disposed and alternative refrigerants could be used

"The small, dark shed where the refrigerant cache was gathering dust held nearly 30,000 pounds of CFCs. If released into the atmosphere, those CFCs would hold the same heat as the carbon dioxide emissions from burning 16 million gallons of gasoline."
