U.S. health insurers could not collect billions in fraud from U.S. Medicaid

By Hicbd

"The insurers, which are paid by state and federal governments to cover low-income Medicaid recipients, collected at least $4.3 billion over three years for patients who were enrolled—and paid for—in other states, a Wall Street Journal analysis of Medicaid data found...Most were getting all their healthcare services through one insurer in one state, even though Medicaid was paying insurers in both states to cover them."

Induction stoves could be better than gas / electric

By Hicbd

"Of the three possible heat sources for a cooktop—gas, radiant-electric, or induction—my testing shows that induction is far and away the best option for nearly any kind of cooking. It’s more consistent at low temperatures, it reaches higher temps faster, it stays cooler and cleaner, and it is nowhere near as pricey as it used to be. The big problem is that a lot of people who want it just can’t get it: An induction cooktop or stove requires a 240-volt outlet, which many Americans do not already have in their kitchens."

Crocs could be bad for feet

By Hicbd

"While Crocs can be comfortable for short periods, podiatrists generally advise against wearing them for extended periods or as a primary footwear choice due to their lack of arch and heel support, which can lead to foot problems and injuries."

Young adults could be adopted

By Hicbd

"The American family, constantly reshaping its contours and configurations, is assuming yet another new look as a rising number of adults formally adopt other grown men and women, providing many of these (people) with their first, true taste of home...A handful of restrictions dot the legal landscape: Michigan, Nebraska and Ohio, experts say, only allow the adoptions of permanently disabled adults – or of an adult who has a long-established relationship with a foster parent or step-parent."

Omnidirectional balls could be wheels

By Hicbd

"Each motor has a very minimal gear reduction to maintain the necessary amount of torque to the wheel that drives the ball to keep the whole thing upright, whether Bruton is sitting on it or not. And these aren't your standard wheels either, they're omni-wheels, capable of not only forward and reverse motion, but laterally, allowing his latest invention to travel in any direction on the ground, as unnatural as it may look."

NICUs could have private rooms for parents to stay nearby to newborns

By Hicbd

"Private NICU rooms are a new standard for improved patient outcomes. Benefits for babies cared for in single-family rooms include higher weight at discharge and more rapid weight gain. Also, they require fewer medical procedures and experience less stress, lethargy and pain. Researchers have attributed these findings to increased maternal involvement. A private-room setting provides space and privacy sought by parents to breastfeed, practice skin-to-skin bonding, and be more intimately involved in their baby’s care. Private rooms allow parents to stay overnight with their newborn, and give staff more access and interaction with the family and patient."

Black hair products / braids could not be harmful / carcinogenic

By Hicbd

"A growing body of evidence suggests that chemicals in hair relaxers—products aimed at straightening hair—and other hair products marketed to Black girls and women contain endocrine-disrupting substances linked with early menstruation, reproductive health issues, and cancer. But these remain largely unregulated in the U.S."

Governments could not have obsolete, outdated, siloed technological systems

By Hicbd

"Across the global landscape of government IT, a critical challenge has taken root: the persistence of legacy systems – outdated software and hardware that remain operational for essential functions. Over the past quarter-century, research consistently shows that 60-80% of public sector IT spending is consumed by maintaining these aging assets, leaving insufficient resources for modernization."
