How U.S. Department of Justice could be different



The U.S. could have a searchable, electronic database of guns

Prisons could have sanitary conditions / pest control

U.S. guns / weapons could not illegally go into Mexico / Latin America

Eyewitness identification, custodial interrogation / recording, judge bias, access to post-conviction DNA testing, evidence preservation, public defense funding / quality, plea bargains, and forensic science could improve to prevent wrongful convictions

Police training / response to gender-based violence could improve

Government legislatures and courts could ensure truth through requiring an oath and punishing perjury

The use of drone strikes could be reevaluated

Reliability and accuracy of voting systems could be improved / explained to citizens

Involuntary sterilization could not happen in prisons

The U.S. Department of Justice / FBI could be independent of executive power

Working with a foreign entity to influence political elections could be a crime and threat to national security

Juries could be more diverse by race, gender, and income

Education could create better citizen / police interactions

A duty to intervene, rules governing use of force, reporting force, predictive data, transparent police records, banning chokeholds, reforming no-knock warrants / police raids, and a stronger U.S. DOJ investigative force could improve policing

"Killology" and warrior-style training could not be a part of U.S. police training

Police unions, LEOBR laws, and qualified immunity could prevent reform and disciplinary actions within police departments

Complaints against police officers could result in reform, disciplinary actions, a national misconduct registry, and effective training

The U.S. executive branch could be limited in potential power

The U.S. could take additional steps to lower prison populations, cost, and excessive punishment

U.S. asylum/immigration seekers could be able to go to ports of entry and more immigration judges could be hired

9/11 First Responders could receive healthcare compensation

U.S. prisoners could receive better / less negligent healthcare

Corporate monopolies could be broken up or more regulated

Prosecutors and judges could be held accountable for misconduct

People (children) could have legal representation in immigration courts
