Post-harvest losses from smallholder farmers could be reduced with moisture testing / hermetic bags / threshing services / warehouses

By Hicbd

"Moisture testing is critical in ensuring that grains remain free from mold and aflatoxin contamination during and after harvest...The ZeroFly Hermetic storage bag uses ground-breaking innovation to provide trouble-free grain storage for up to two years while protecting stored grain from mold and insect infestation...By providing drying services, smallholder farmers can quickly and conveniently dry their grains to an acceptable moisture level for long-term storage...Our threshing services ensure that farmers can get their grains threshed in an efficient and timely manner, thus reducing drudgery and losses...By providing warehousing services, farmers are able to keep their produce safe until they are ready to sell — increasing their income and profit in the process."

Silos / food storage in schools could prevent food waste / malnutrition in developing countries

By Hicbd

"In 2022, WFP findings indicated 75% of the 314 schools in Karamoja lacked proper food storage facilities. Classrooms and teacher offices were used to store commodities including rice, beans, maize, and cooking oil. Up to 30% of food was lost due to lack of proper storage...With USAID support, the silos have provided adequate storage; reduced food losses from insects, rodents, and spillage; and have improved delivery."

A salt / baking soda bath could reduce radiation exposure

By Hicbd

"This salt and soda soak is a radiation-neutralizing bath designed to help you detox and to clear your system of ionizing radiation, a particularly invasive environmental factor that can devastate your immune system. A salt and soda soak is an ideal way to detox after taking a long airplane trip. Flying on an airplane increases your exposure because you are exposed to high levels of gamma-ray radiation at high altitude levels. In addition, if you go through the full-body back scatter X-ray scanner, you will expose your body to small, bioaccumulative doses of ionizing radiation."

Silent lawn appliances (leaf blowers / mowers) could be invented

By Hicbd

"In the post, Perry can be seen gardening and blowing leaves with a traditional leaf blower. However, he questions why Elon Musk, the SpaceX CTO, hasn’t invented a silent leaf blower yet. Musk, who is known for his futuristic and innovative ideas, is yet to respond to Perry’s request. Fans and netizens flooded the comments section, with many agreeing with Perry and wondering if such an invention could be possible in the future."

China / companies could not have 9-9-6 working hours

By Hicbd

"The 996 working hour system is a work schedule practiced by some companies in China. It derives its name from its requirement that employees work from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, 6 days per week; i.e. 72 hours per week, 12 hours per day. A number of Mainland Chinese internet companies have adopted this system as their official work schedule. Critics argue that the 996 working hour system is a violation of Chinese Labour Law and have called it 'modern slavery.'"

By Hicbd

"Project Soar’s (PS) single focus is supporting teen girls in the most marginalized communities. The Girls Soar in Morocco (GSM)’s Leadership Training Program for Marginalized Teen Girls will help 200 vulnerable girls stay in school, avoid child marriage, and gain skills for future employment. This program enhances girls’ leadership skills through the establishment of empowerment workshops and Girl Leader Clubs (GLC)...The organization has now grown to chapters nationwide. PS has provided 200,100+ hours of empowerment workshops for 3,543 teen girls and is active in 22 Moroccan chapters and five Ugandan chapters. The Project Soar Solution is the first of its kind."

Donuts could be made with sourdough

By Hicbd

"To combat this, he combined two baking techniques. The doughnuts are made from sourdough that ferments for three days. Then, he mixes flour with boiling water, a method known as tangzhong in Mandarin or yudane in Japanese that’s used to make fluffy milk bread. This gelatinizes the starches so they can absorb more water, yielding a moist, soft texture, O’Brien said. It also gives the doughnuts a longer shelf life, he said."

Foster care could be less difficult for foster parents to prevent children from going to group homes

By Hicbd

"Foster parents say they’re being driven away by a state agency plagued by heavy workloads and high turnover. Overwhelmed state social workers often don’t return calls or email, leaving parents feeling unsupported and disrespected...Many also cite feeling powerless because they have no standing at hearings where judges decide what happens to the kids in their care. The state, in its interpretation of federal directives, prioritizes biological ties above a child’s emotional attachment...Most of the kids’ cases went through at least four caseworkers as they lived with the Moodys, setting back progress by months each time while the new workers got their bearings and developed new plans."

Women could be trapped traveling to Islamic / Sharia law countries with male relatives / spouses

By Hicbd

"Women across the Middle East and North Africa region face varying restrictions preventing them from moving freely in their own country and from traveling abroad without the permission of their male guardians—typically their fathers or brothers, and when married, their husbands. The following report examines 20 countries in the Middle East and North African region and describes the different country requirements imposed on women to get their male guardians’ permission for their mobility within their country, to obtain a passport, and to travel abroad. It also examines whether women can travel abroad with their children as guardians on an equal basis with men...Women have pointed to how men have used such rules to extort, exploit, punish or degrade them, and harm their rights."

E-cigarettes / vaping could have health / addiction risks

By Hicbd

"Nevertheless, the safety of e-cigarette consumption and its potential as a smoking cessation method remain controversial due to limited evidence. Moreover, it has been reported that the heating process itself can lead to the formation of new decomposition compounds of questionable toxicity...Worryingly, the potential long-term effects of e-cigarette consumption have been scarcely investigated."
