A pulsating electric fence / magnetic technology could keep sharks away
By Hicbd
"This summer, 61-year-old distance swimmer Diana Nyad's team plans to use a system called Shark Shield during her attempt to swim the 100-odd miles from Cuba to the Florida Keys. The tech isn't new, but it will be put to the test like never before. 'It pulses a bit like an electric fence," said Martin Grace, general manager for the Australia-based company Shark Shield. "The shark detects that, doesn't like it, and you'll see the skin shudder in the shark.'"

"The national governing body is a defendant in several lawsuits claiming it failed to protect them from abuse by coaches. In 2010, USA Swimming’s former executive director, the late Chuck Wielgus, was accused of ignoring or downplaying dozens of cases of sexual abuse. Around 150 swimming coaches have since been banned by the U.S. Center for SafeSport, which was created in response to cases in swimming, gymnastics and other Olympic sports...Though not affiliated with the SafeSport center, RealResponse started offering its own technology five years ago to help organizations streamline reporting and keep better track of the way they process and resolve cases. By Hicbd
"Moreover, the 100 percent bonus depreciation deduction for qualified “retail motor fuel outlets” through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 poured gasoline on net lease investor demand for c-stores and gas stations. Because the 100 percent bonus depreciation will be available only through the end of 2022 before it starts to incrementally decrease, net lease buyers are in a frenzy to close deals."

"According to Contemporist.com, the Nissan team in Japan created office chairs that automatically return to their proper spots — all you have to do is clap your hands. The chairs utilize Nissan's intelligent parking assist technology — which powers cars to pull into parking spots with little to no assistance from the driver — to make office cleanup a breeze."

"Induction of labour can be life-saving in some situations. But when it’s not medically indicated, it could put women and babies at unnecessary increased risk of complications...Our research found sometimes inductions are done where there is no identified medical reason. As previous research has shown, this is especially the case in private hospitals."

Please login to commentCommunities could have crop swaps
By Hicbd
"It’s a simple concept, but also very profound. The swap is not just about exchanging fruits and veggies, or chocolate and homemade kombucha. It’s about building a community, encouraging self-sufficiency, and reducing our carbon footprint by growing and sharing food close to home...But we decided to make it more of a potluck than a strict swap: You put your contribution on the table, and people share freely.” It’s not a one-for-one exchange, and everyone is welcome, even without bringing crops."
