Pajamas / clothes could be chemical-free / naturally flame-retardant

By Hicbd

"Back in 1972, when polyester clothing and smoking were near their peaks in the U.S., Congress had passed the Consumer Product Safety Act, creating the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which declared that children's pajamas must be tight- fitting or treated with flame-retardant chemicals. A swatch of fabric from any children's pajama sold in the U.S. needed to withstand three seconds of direct contact with a gas flame without igniting...She contacted a factory that made clothing for firefighters and asked it to weave inherently flame-retardant fibers into organic cotton."

Hormones / neurosteroids / sleep / medication could prevent / treat postpartum depression

By Hicbd

"Progesterone is the most common hormone in pregnancy, and the dramatic drop in progesterone after giving birth may have a role in depression postpartum. OB/GYN Dr. Kirtly Parker Jones talks about the pros and cons of brexanolone, a newly FDA-approved synthetic version of the allopregnanolone steroid, meant to treat postpartum depression."

By Hicbd

"When it comes to pushing a stroller from a wheelchair, the perfectly right equipment is needed. And there are a variety of wheelchair-accessible strollers that have been invented, despite many not being for sale. Read on to see the fantastic ideas that have been created in recent years."

China's 5G network in developing countries could influence them / create authoritarian governments

By Hicbd

"In 2015, China added the Digital Silk Road (DSR) to its massive Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)...According to this analysis, the Chinese government has the ability to use Huawei-built fifth-generation (5G) networks to collect intelligence, monitor critics, and steal intellectual property. There are also worries that the company might bow to government demands and disable networks to exert coercive pressure on a country."

U.S. food safety legislation could be less complicated / overlapping

By Hicbd

"Detwiler says that food safety regulations can differ from state to state and even county to county. He one of the questions the film seeks to ask is 'How did we get to a place with 15 government agencies in charge of the country’s food, yet none of them can keep its citizens safe?'...And one of the frustrating things for FDA and USDA is being able to do the underlying research, to know that the source of the contamination really was that farm, or really wasn’t. But FDA inspectors cannot go onto cattle farms or feedlots.”

People could be notified (apps / text messages) about listeria outbreaks / foodborne diseases / infectious diseases

By Hicbd

"When two or more people get the same illness from the same contaminated food or drink, the event is called a foodborne disease outbreak. The list on this page primarily represents multistate foodborne outbreak investigations involving Listeria in which CDC was the lead public health agency. CDC’s online data tool, NORS Dashboard, contains a more complete listing of Listeria outbreaks reported to CDC since 1998."

Homeowners could sell directly to buyers

By Hicbd

"If you’ve ever sold a house, you know what a pain it is to go through the process of listing, showing and negotiating the sale of your home...Aalto’s online marketplace, which launched in April of this year, directly connects homeowners to buyers. The company claims that a potential seller can list their home on its platform in five minutes, rather than a typical process that is closer to five weeks."

Tiny cabins in nature could be available to rent

By Hicbd

"Getaway offers simple escapes to tiny cabins in nature just outside of major cities, where guests can disconnect from work, wifi, and routines for a night or two and actually take a break. Getaway builds Outposts (collections of tiny cabins in the woods), outfits them with everything you need and nothing you don't, and rents them by the night. Everything about the experience - from the location of the land, to the design of the cabins to the lack of wifi - helps guests unplug from the stress of daily life, reset, and embrace simple pleasures like nature and a campfire."

Atherectomies / artery / vascular surgery could be leading to high rates of amputations / death

By Hicbd

"For some people with advanced forms of peripheral artery disease, atherectomies can be useful. But even for them, studies have found that atherectomies do not work better than less expensive methods of clearing blockages and restoring blood flow. Others have found that because atherectomies can further inflame patients’ arteries, they can lead to higher rates of amputations."

Hospital Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs) could be monopolies and prevent fulfillment of important medical supplies / drugs

By Hicbd

"GPOs originated as hospital buying clubs, consolidated catalogs of medical supplies available at discount prices...It started in 1987, when lobbyists convinced Congress to weaken the anti-kickback laws that had kept GPOs honest. Freed from a prohibition on taking bribes, GPO buyers began to source hospital supplies based on the size of the 'commission' rather than value for money."
