Doctors could prescribe opioid pain pills on a limited basis

"The CDC recommended that opioids generally be reserved for cancer, palliative and end-of-life care, and when they are prescribed for short-term pain, be limited to three days. But the National Safety Council survey of 201 internists and family medicine doctors found that almost all of them put patients on the drugs for much longer periods: About 1 in 5 doctors, for instance, ordinarily prescribe the pills for 30 days."
