C-sections could be gentler / safer

"As long as safety isn't compromised, doctors respect patients' requests for soft lighting or music, so they can stick to aspects of their original birthing plan. Then, during the surgery, a clear or lower drape is used, so laboring moms can feel more involved in their birthing experience and watch their newborn emerge from the womb with less intervention from doctors, who give the baby time — up to a minute — to take his or her first breaths before using the arms to wriggle out of the womb. Dose-controlled, site-specific anesthetics keep the laboring mother comfortable without affecting her upper body more than necessary, thus enabling her to cuddle and nurse her baby shortly after birth. What's more, heart-monitoring equipment is positioned more strategically around the birthing mother's chest to avoid interference if she'd like to breastfeed immediately in the operating room. The process isn't just designed to be more pleasant, but potentially safer: The slower pace may help minimize the mother's bleeding but more research is needed."
