"Backing The Pool 2021 is backing a necessary new model of theater production whereby artists control the means of production and bypass the slow, often trend-driven and risk-averse gatekeeping of institutional theater. Inspired by revolutionaries Maria Irene Fornes, Wallace Shawn, Sam Shepherd, 13P, and other playwright-driven models of production, we first inherited The Pool in order to say YES to ourselves, bypass the waiting-list of institutional American theater, and present the kind of work that we want to see... IN REP!"
