Donor-advised funds could be used more currently in philanthropy

"Some national and community DAF sponsors suggest a 5% payout. But this is only a start and not nearly enough. Way more money is being put into DAFs than is moving out. In 2018, $37 billion entered the funds, but only $23 billion got put to work. Given the size of the existing $120 billion “DAF rainy day fund” plus the need generated by the pandemic, we believe DAF sponsors should be recommending that donors do a lot more, with the goal of granting more than ever this year."
