The idea of being able to participate in the decision-making processes of local communities is crystallizing before our very eyes. In Chicago, for example, some community representatives are allowing residents to directly vote on how to allocate portions of their discretionary budget for public projects. This also takes place in parts of Brazil. Taking these ideas to scale by voting for more measures our representatives usually vote on would flatten out inequalities and power vacuums.
