How Oceans could be different

Fish music could help coral reefs

"Living coastlines" could be fortified with coconuts to prevent coastal erosion / support wildlife

Sonar / noise could not harm whales / marine life

A sunrise ocean ceremony could start the day

Stones with seaweed spores could grow seaweed forests

A bubble barrier could catch plastic waste in rivers / canals

Seawalls could be living

Whales / wildlife could be prevented from being struck by ships

Coral reefs could grow faster with solar electrical currents

Treasure hunting / archeology could be invested in / a hobby

Cruise ships could pollute less / dump less sewage / use different fuel

100 or higher foot waves could be surfed

Search and rescue expertise could be improved in the Coast Guard

Bioplastic could be made from crops / hemp / sugar / seaweed / food waste and biodegrade

Iron could encourage the growth of ocean phytoplankton to capture carbon

Certain seafood could be not eaten to rebuild wild populations / prevent toxins / protect health

Fishing gear could be biodegradeable

Tiny plastic shower bottles could be changed to bulk dispensers

Fishing nets could have green lights to prevent bycatch

Wine could be stored under the sea

Aquaculture could be automated

Land and sea could be rewild-ed

Desalination could be used for water sources

The Japanese government could be open / effective in dealing with the Fukushima nuclear disaster

Deep sea mining could be destructive

Nations' debt could be restructured to protect coastal areas

Seafood could be made from plants

The seas could be patrolled for illegal fishing and human trafficking

Fish farming could be more sustainable and humane

Sustainable / dolphin-safe seafood labeling could be fake

Foreign industrial fishing trawlers could cause communities to lose livelihoods/food sources

Bottom trawling could not be used by the fishing industry

Millions of tons of fishing bycatch / deaths could be reduced through different fishing methods

Dolphin, whales, porpoises could not be illegally killed

Crops could be grown in the ocean

Plastic recycling could be a myth

Cotton swabs could be reusable

Bracelets, clothing, and other merchandise could support ocean cleanup

Wool / clothes could be made with oyster shells and plastic from the ocean

Shark fin soup could not be eaten

Fertilizer and sewage runoff could be prevented to not cause ocean dead zones

Single-use plastic and plastic packaging could be not used

Scientists / conservationists and fishermen could work together to enable fishing to be sustainable / successful

Chefs could be connected with local fisherman

Artificial reefs could preserve marine ecosystems

Sea urchins could be removed to restore kelp forests

Ocean forests could be replanted

Foam could be used instead of wet wipes

Whales and phytoplankton could decrease carbon dioxide in the atmosphere

Waves could create music

Micro-fragmenting could rebuild coral reefs

Rip currents could be fought by going with the flow

The high seas could be turned into a nature reserve

More ocean areas could be national parks (marine protected areas)

Oysters / oyster shells could restore reefs along coastlines / prevent storm surges

Seismic blasting could be changed to prevent damage to ocean ecosystems

Certain sunscreens could not be used to prevent damage to coral reefs

Straws (and other plastics) could be compostable, edible, or not used

A floating trash can could suck up litter in water

Ghost fishing gear could be cleaned up in the oceans

Microbeads and microplastics could be banned, limited, or disposed of differently

A 60 mile wide device could clean up litter in the oceans
