How Community Policing could be different

U.S. students could not be arrested for minor offenses / have unnecessarily negative experiences with school police

Police could have athletic / activities leagues

Guardian Angels could help make communities safer

Chicago policing / data collection / budget / afterschool programs could improve to confront gang violence

Education could create better citizen / police interactions

"Killology" and warrior-style training could not be a part of U.S. police training

Minor crime arrests, racial and religious profiling, stop and frisk, police quotas, fines, and seizure of property could create community distrust and resentment of police

Police could have implicit bias training, mediation/conflict resolution/de-escalation training, use of force training, and HR diversity/local community recruitment

Militarization of the police could lead to negative effects

Police unions, LEOBR laws, and qualified immunity could prevent reform and disciplinary actions within police departments

Truth and reconciliation commissions could help bring about peace after internal unrest/violence/discrimination

Police officers could live in or near the places they serve

Independent prosecutors could handle cases of police misconduct

Police officers could not carry firearms
